Online drug trade legalization to raise Internet sale share to 10%

MOSCOW, Mar 18 (PRIME) -- The legalization of online drug sales in Russia will increase the share of their sales via the Internet to 10% of all sales of the retail segment of the Russian pharmaceutical market, Russian Online Retail Association (AKIT) President Artyom Sokolov told PRIME late on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had signed a decree authorizing the remote sale of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. He also ordered the government to resolve the issue of increasing the responsibility for counterfeiting drugs in the context of the spread of coronavirus.

“After the adoption of the law, the growth of the segment of online drug sales can reach up to 10% of the Russian retail pharmaceutical market over five years, that is, up to 100 billion rubles,” Sokolov said.
